Fleece blanket ministry

Did you know … Murphy-Harpst Center is a United Methodist Women National Mission Institution? It’s one of four in Georgia. Did you know … they serve the most challenging youth, many of whom are placed there by the state because there is nowhere else they can go to get the care they need? These two questions lead to the most important question that you can ask…How can I send a hug and a prayer to these kids? The answer is as easy as coming to our Fellowship Hall on Monday mornings and tying knots!

Jean Hulsey leads a hands-on workshop monthly on the first Monday at 10:00am in The Connection.  Participants will learn to make no-sew fleece blankets Murphy-Harpst provides round-the-clock therapeutic care for Georgia's most horrifically abused children so that they may heal and grow in a safe environment. Upon arrival at the center, children receive a fleece blanket to physically wrap them in warmth and comfort. Murphy-Harpst is excited that we will be providing for this element of care.

If you would like to make a donation to purchase fleece, you may note your donation "Blanket Ministry". If you would like to purchase fleece, please contact Jean Hulsey for exact requirements. You may also make blankets at home! The children at the Murphy-Harpst Centers are surely blessed by your efforts!

The next meeting will be the first Monday in October.

tuesday morning prayer group

Join our prayer group on Tuesday mornings from 9:30 - 10:30am in the Connection Ministry Center, room, C-17. You will be blessed as you pray for others. One hour is not much to give back to God for all He does for us. God bless you!

Questions? Please contact Pat Foster or Pastor Keith Cox. You may also email the Prayer Ministry.

The Prayer Ministry would like to thank you for all the prayer requests you give us weekly. We feel honored to be able to pray for all the congregation's needs. It would help us so much if you could please put the address of the person on your prayer request. This way, we can send them a prayer card. Thank you!

beads of focus prayer ministry

Our newest prayer ministry is called Beads of Focus which will meet on Tuesday mornings at 11:00am in The Connection. This group will not pray from a list of requests, but will pray in a more spontaneous response to what is on one’s spirit at the time using prayer beads. “Prayer beads are a tool for prayer. Just as a hammer and nail help us construct a house, so prayer beads help us construct a life of connection with God,” writes Kristen Vincent in A Bead and a Prayer: A Beginner’s Guide to Protestant Prayer Beads, published by Upper Room Books.

The first set of beads will assist the group in focusing on the nine aspects of the fruit of the Spirit, as prayer is lifted for love, joy, peace, kindness, and so on.  Marilyn Davis will lead the regular prayer sessions on Tuesdays at 11:00am. Extra sets of beads will be available if you are a new attendee to the group.

skeins of love prayer shawl ministry

A new fellowship/outreach group began September 13th, 2012, at Clarkesville First United Methodist Church. Ladies with an interest in knitting and crocheting have since met weekly to make prayer shawls, hats, and scarves. Their handiwork has blessed hearts on a military base in Afghanistan, been dispersed globally through United Methodist Women, warmed people of the Redbird Mission Conference in Kentucky, enveloped children of The United Methodist Children’s Home, and comforted many folks right here in our community.

Skeins of Love invites others to fellowship with them and share in this caring ministry. All skill levels are welcome. Yarn and instruction are available. They gather each Thursday at 10:00am in The Connection Ministry Center, room C-11, of Clarkesville First UMC on Washington Street.

Sweet Sleep Pillowcase Ministry

The Sweet Sleep Pillowcase Ministry is a ministry of prayer and caring by the Morning Joy UMW Circle. Homemade pillowcases are signed and prayer is committed for those with a physical, emotional, or spiritual life crisis.

“Give and ye shall receive.” Giving our Lord Jesus prayers on behalf of others is one of the most powerful things you can do for someone in need. Signing a pillowcase for someone is your promise to pray for that individual throughout their journey. The Morning Joy Ladies are ready to give a free Sweet Sleep pillowcase to someone you might know who is having a physical, emotional, or spiritual life crisis and would benefit from prayer and the gift of a pillowcase.
